Atlantic Square, Glasgow
Active Attenuation System
Atlantic Square is a new Grade ‘A’, 300,000ft² sustainable mixed-use development located in the heart of Glasgow’s International Financial Services District (IFSD) comprising two commercial buildings of ten storeys and six storeys respectively, with ground floor retail space in both.
Both buildings contain separate attenuation tanks of 90,000L and 60,000L respectively. Aquality Storm Control (ASC) systems utilising StormHarvester’s technology are installed on both the 90,000L and 60,000L tanks. The ASC systems turn the rainwater harvesting tanks serving both buildings into active attenuation tanks. The active attenuation tanks are used to recycle water for reuse around the site while at the same time allowing the tanks to count towards the site’s overall storm attenuation requirement.
Installing the ASC system equipped with StormHarvester technology negated the requirement for a separate 150,000L of attenuation on-site and therefore freed up space on-site. This also contributed significantly towards construction savings.
The ASC system insures a large reduction in the volume of stormwater discharged from the site into the local sewer network. Instead of being discharged the water is now reused on-site which contributes to reducing the site’s annual water bills.
