Network Control

In partnership with Hydrodigital

Stop sewer spills before they happen.

HydroDigital’s real-time, AI-assisted network control, informed by StormHarvester insights, turns sewer systems from passive pipes into smart, dynamic infrastructure, ensuring every inch of capacity is used before any drop is lost.

The Problem? (Why Spills Happen)

When storms hit, networks fill unevenly. Some assets sit half-empty while others overflow. Traditional operations can’t keep up with fast-changing conditions, leading to avoidable spills, flooding, and costly emergency responses.

Observe. Predict. Act.

Dynamic control maximizes what you already own, unlocking hidden capacity and delaying or downsizing capex.

Identify

We identify bottlenecks in the sewer system and opportunities to reduce spills.

Observe

Connect your existing sensors and systems for a live view of levels and flows.

Predict

A “glass-box” digital twin blends physics and machine learning to forecast how the network will behave.

Act

The platform recommends or automates control moves to make the most of treatment, conveyance, and storage, before a spill occurs.

Proven impact

Our solution has been shown to reduce spills fast by making better use of existing
infrastructure, without waiting for new construction. Utilities using our approach have demonstrated that dynamic control can minimize the cost of spill reduction by 10x or more compared to traditional engineering solutions.

By leveraging real-time data, predictive modeling, and intelligent control, utilities can unlock major environmental and economic benefits in weeks, not years.

FAQs

Will you need to control my assets from your platform?

No, our approach can be incorporated as operational recommendations (supervisory control or human in the loop control). To simplify the recommendations, some logic can be programmed in your SCADA system.

My sewers are small and cannot be used to hold water.

No problem! Holding water in large sewer pipes (aka In-Line Storage) is just one type of opportunity. Some of our more successful implementations were based on flow balancing in small sewer lines.

Can I increase flooding by using dynamic control?

Our smart sewer implementations are designed with multiple layers of safety. From redundant sensors and actuators, to emergency weirs, to manual overrides, in the worst case scenario, the system should behave as it did before dynamic control was in place.

During large storms the system has no capacity and everything is overwhelmed. Would dynamic control work?

Yes! Dynamic control was designed to minimize flows during more frequent storm events in order to reduce the annual number of spills. This means having large storm event strategies that are aimed at protecting the infrastructure instead of trying to minimize spills.

How fast can we see value?

Our platform Identify phase quickly identifies high-ROI control opportunities; initial results can be available in just hours. Also, smaller-scale pilots can demonstrate impact before broader rollout.

Do we need to hire you every time we want to make a change?

No, we have designed our platform to be fully configurable by users with minimal training. While our team is ready to help you with every step along the way, your team should be able to build a smart sewer application from scratch.
